St. Joseph
is excited to offer parishioners a unique, spiritual renew program
called Why Catholic? beginning this fall. It is a faith formation
program based on the Scripture and the Catechism of the Catholic
Church.
Participating in Why Catholic? is a wonderful opportunity for adults
to reflect on the faith we hold dear and to deepen our understanding
of the trusts we profess in the Creed each Sunday. Why Catholic?
offers a concrete approach to help adults deepen their faith and
connect its teachings to their everyday lives.
Why
Catholic? is for adult Catholics who desire to deepen their faith,
for parents who want to pass on their faith, catechists who want to
enhance their faith, and adult candidates and catechumens who want
to learn the faith.
Why
Catholic? encourages learning in a prayerful, small-community
setting. The first six-week session will be offered at St. Joe’s in
October. The sessions last 90 minutes each.
While
participation is encouraged for each 90-minute session, Why
Catholic? is unique in that you can join at any time and not feel
behind or left out because each session has its own topic and can
stand alone. Participation in Why Catholic? is simple, the meetings
are short and commitment is limited.
Why
Catholic? is a four year program, with 12 sessions conducted per
year (two six-week sessions), focused on the four parts of the
Catechism. St. Joe’s will begin with “The Celebration of the
Christian Mystery: The Sacraments.” The other parts are: “Life in
Christ: Walking with God,” “Christian Prayer: Deepening My
Experience of God,” and “The Profession of Faith—What We Believe.”
