St. Joseph Church is ALIVE with the sound of music, and we would like to invite you to be a part of it! Led by our music director, Mia Williams, and accompanist, Cindy Oser, St. Joseph Church presents many opportunities to be involved in our Music Ministry. Here’s how you can get involved:
Sing at Mass! All parishioners, young and old, great voices or not so much, are invited and encouraged to sing during our liturgies. We come together as a worshipping community to pray together, and singing is part of that prayer.
Adult Choir: If you love to sing and would like to help lead the singing at our Masses, perhaps you would like to join our Adult Choir! This group meets for rehearsals on Wednesday nights from 7:00-8:30 PM, and sings at the 9:30 AM Mass on Sundays. People ages 16 and older are encouraged to give it a try. This group is also a part of the combined singing with other singers for Holy Week, and the Taize prayer service during Lent. Singing experience or music reading skills are not necessary!
Contemporary Group: A small, specialized group leads the congregation at the 3 PM Mass on Saturdays, as well as other celebrations throughout the year. This group combines instruments with voices, and requires an audition, along with music reading skills. Rehearsals are before Saturday Masses at 2:15 PM.
Be a Cantor! A cantor at liturgies has a very special role in engaging the congregation in songs and responses. A cantor must have some music skills and be able to consistently sing music with clarity and accuracy. A cantor must be able to sing solo to lead the responsorial psalm as well as to perhaps lead other songs/music. An audition is required.
For all groups and individuals, assistance in learning music and training is provided.
As you can see, there are opportunities for people of all ages and musical backgrounds. Whether you have participated in a music ministry in the past, or whether you enjoy singing and would like to try a new ministry, take note!! This is a wonderful way to be more engaged iliturgy and have fun with other parishioners.
